Caring For Animals
Showing compassion for animals can help children learn to be kind to all living things.
If you have a pet teach your children and grandchildren to be gentle. Show them how to pet an animal on the back instead of on the face. They shouldn’t tease or roughhouse with a pet but show them how to play appropriately. Let them help you feed or groom your pet.

Memories of Times Past (44 years to be exact)
A few weeks ago I had a fun experience as a hostess at one of the homes for the Utah Heritage Foundation Home Tour. It features homes in historic areas of Salt Lake City that have made restorations in keeping with the time period the home was originally built. It was great because the homes were located in an area of Salt Lake that I lived in as a teenager. When I was finished with my shift I went to visit the other homes. One of the homes that was featured was one that had special meaning for me. It was the home of Joan & Glen Young. For about 2 years I baby sat, cleaned and ironed for the Young’s. Although they don’t live in the home now, it was fun to go in and see how it had change. My mind was flooded with memories of the family, the 2 cute little girls, cleaning the baseboards in the living and dining room every week, ironing sheets and pillowcases and pitting cherries to bottle. That was 44 years ago and the memories are still vivid. It made me think about the kind of memories I’m making with my grandchildren and I hope in 20 years I’ll be laughing and maybe crying with them about memories we shared.

Hugs and Kisses – A Poem About Grandchildren
My 6th grade students had an assignment to write a poem about something they loved, so I decided to write one also.
Hugs and Kisses
by E. Naccarato
What a delight it is to see,
My darling grandchildren run to me.
Their arms around my neck so tight,
Hugging me with all their might.
Their kisses are sometimes sloppy and wet,
But I don’t care, I’m not going to fret!
I’ll take their hugs and kisses anyway,
And cherish their love each and every day.
I would love for you to share a poem about your children or grandchildren.
