Things My Mother Taught Me

My Mother with 1 of my 3 great kids!

My Mother with my daughter, Callee

My mother taught me to always be kind and include everyone in activities and games that I was playing with my friends. I would often look for kids standing on the sidelines and invite them to join the fun. Because my father had a disability (he lost a leg serving in WWII), my brothers and I never thought twice about including someone with a disability to join us. Even now when I’m at the park with my grandchildren I often invite other children to play our games.

For Mother’s Day in my class we are making fridge magnets. I got some paint sticks at Lowe’s and we painted them, put on some small clothes pins with small wooden hearts and stars and added magnets to the back. They have turned out very cute. The kids got to put a personal message on the front too.

My mother communicated the joy, the energy of life. She taught me a fun song I will translate for you. “Whatever happens to me, I always have a smile on my face. I take life from the good
side of things. When I tell myself what happens to me could be a lot worse, that is enough to make me laugh”

We use to do a little dance to the following lyrics:

“One step ahead, one step backward, one step on one side, one step on the other side. Dadaine, Dadaine (cannot translate the last word) Anyway, the idea was that life is kind of like this. You win some, you lose some. Have fun with life.

Even though that is an ugly picture of me, I will still comment. My mother taught me that no matter how much I screw up that she still loves me. She always taught me to be nice to the underdog, she always helped me organize parties for the neighborhood kids and encouraged me to do my best on whatever I was doing.

My mom taught me to treat everyone the way I would want to be treated. She taught me that it is not about me, but us. She taught me that no matter what you are going thur or how bad your life is right now, smile and remeber perhaps someone else is going thru the same thing.
She has also passed this on to her grandchildern.
Thanks for such a great site!!!

My mother has taught me to never give up on my dreams. When I was 16 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and despite her episodes throughout the years and losing her mobility, she has never given up hope and has always found ways to accomplish everything she wanted. Although she had to give up her teaching career because of her disease and can no longer walk, she has still maintained her credentials all these years and volunteers every day at an elementary school because she has never given up on her dreams and ambitions of being a teacher! She is truly an inspiration!

I don’t have anything positive to say about my Mother. Unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with a great one, and so I guess the thing that she taught me…is that I want to be a better Mother than she was.

I asked my 4 year old what she likes about me, and she said that she likes that I cook her breakfast! Nice, huh!? Oh, and she likes that I taught her how to dress herself. She is a silly girl!

I hope that I win, and I will be bloggin’ about this on http://www.sellpartyof.com

My mom taught me that family is most important in life. She has always been there for me. It’s ok not to agree on everything, but she was always there for support.

Why is my comment not showing up!!! I am really getting irritated now. I have this whole cute thing posted…and then it doesn’t appear. Boo! It’s probably user error!

Okay, so my Mom taught me that I want to be a better Mom…

My mother has taught me how to love. We would skip down the street while taking walks together, singing at the top of our lungs. She has taught me how to keep going even when the situation was hard. She has taught me how to forgive people that hurt you. She has taught me how to keep God in my life, and include him in my decisions. She taught me how to work, even though I hated EVERY minute of it. She taught me how to overcome – both my parents grew up in alcoholic families and they were able to raise a family different and better than they experienced themselves. My mother is kindhearted, tries to do her best, and serves other people. She always tries to make others feel better and I have also learned to be compassionate through her. Yay Mother’s Day! :)

My mom taught me to work hard and not give up. I am a better person because of these lessons. She is the best mom ever!!

My mom always taught me to clean my house before I leave because it would be embarrasing if something happened and the relief society had to come over and clean it.

Val, that sounds a lot like “Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident and have to go to the hospital!”

My mom taught me to cook…thank you MOM!! I have used that very well. She also taught me to share my talents, and to quilt, sewing, and making things out of little things.

My mother taught me by example that you must always make your bed and there should never be any dirty dishes out. Now, that is what she taught me, but that unfortunately is not what I do…well, maybe the bed, but the dishes….not so good. My mother taught me to be happy and is one of the happiest people I know. No matter the circumstance, you should choose to be happy. I love her for that.

I did the caterpillar project with my 4-year old and I had to tell you how much fun it was! Thanks for the idea. I included a link to your blog for the extra entries, but my blog is private so I sent an invite to your email.

Rachel
I’m glad you and your son had fun with the caterpillar activity. I hope you find some others to do together.

My Mom was such a hard worker, she taught us all how to work. We lived on a farm and there’s always work to do. I have alot of good memories of my Mom, she was always busy, but always had time to be there for us. My mother never gossiped, she just didn’t say negative things about people. She was very tender hearted, and loving. I’m very appreciative and grateful for all my Mother did for me.

Besides teaching me that the kitchen cabinet doors need to stay shut, she has taught me the importance of families. She does a great job getting all of us together for holidays, birthdays, and just to have fun together.

My mom taught me to serve others. Her favorite thing was to make homemade bread and take to new neighbors, or those who were sick or lonely. She also taught me to laugh even when things are hard. She has a great sense of humor!

My mother taught me to treat everyone with kindness, even if they aren’t kind to you. She also taught me to work hard at what I do. She also taught me to do my best, and my best is good enough. I really appreciate that she taught the importance of following the Prophet, and keeping the commandments, even when it’s hard.

My mother taught me to be kind, be honest, make my bed, and to make sugar cookies from scratch when my children beg for them.
