December 1st is the anniversary of the day in 1955 when Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Ala. spurring a boycott lasting more that a year and sparking the civil right movement. I was only 5 years old when this event took place but because I have a great interest in history and people who through small, non-violent acts make a difference in the world, I have great admiration for Rosa.
I would have been 8 when Rosa Parks was arrested, but I don’t remember it. I do remember the events in Little Rock two years later. Those brave high school students inspired me whenever I was faced with a challenge, and I am sure they made a difference in many people’s lives.
I agree Susan, there were and still are so many “everyday” people who take a stand for what is right.
