Mason’s Special Day

Mason’s special day was jam packed with activities. We had fun playing dominoes then lining them up and knocking them down.

We headed to the park for a game of basketball. I had difficulty walking after that!

The day ended with lunch and swimming at Great-grandma Macey’s.

Fun Sandwiches

What could be easier? Just make your favorite sandwich and use cookie cutters to make the shapes. What child wouldn’t want to eat these?

Megan’s Special Day

We went to my school to do a few things in my classroom. Megan helped me organize and cover bulletinboards. She had fun writing on the whiteboard.

Having lunch at Sizzler. I think Megan’s favorite part was the ice cream bar.

We had so much fun making clothespin dolls. Megan had some great ideas to decorate her dolls. I think they turned out darling.

Logan’s Special Day

Logan and I had a fun time at Wheeler Farm. There were new piglets that he got to pet.

He loved climbing on the old tractors.

And as always there’s a fun craft project. Logan loves to create things from wood and then paint them.

Paper House Activity & Father’s Day Card

This is fun and easy all year long but it can also be used as a Father’s Day card.
All you need is a rectangle shape piece of paper and a pencil. You can make your house as large or as small as you like depending on the size of paper. Have your child fold the paper into a house. They may need your help. Read a story about families or traditions and then have your child write or draw pictures inside the house, about a special family activity or tradition. Stand it up to display. You can also use stickers that represent a family activity or tradition.

Kimball’s Special Day

>Kimball had his special day with me and we did lots of fun things.

We went to the park, to Wheeler Farm, we painted, and played. Then he wrote a story about all the things we did to share with his family.

Clothespin Dolls

Aren’t these darling. I can’t wait to make them with my 8 year old granddaughter when we have our special sleepover. They would also be fun to make at a birthday party. Thanks to Hope at Going Sew Crazy for letting me share her idea. She has detailed directions so they’re easy to make.

Simple Pleasures of Grandparenting

mason-ethan-on-slide-at-parkI learned or should I say re-learned a lesson recently, when it comes to grandchildren it’s the simple things that can build lasting memories. Two of my grandsons, age 7 and 5, were spending time with me and one of the things we did was go to the playground of a nearby school. They had fun playing follow-the-leader, pretending to be the Star Wars characters and daring each other to try tricks on the high bars. But most of the time was spend scooping up small gravel rocks and piling them at the bottom of the slide. They would then slide down and crash through the rocks. After laughing hysterically we would start the piling again. This went on for about 30 minutes and then it was time to head back home. At dinner and even later in the evening they talked about how much fun we had piling and sliding through the rocks. They both expressed, “That was their favorite thing!” It all seemed so simple yet, I believe it built a lasting memory.
I would love to hear about the memories you are building with your children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews.

Grandma’s Tea Party

I’m featuring my friend Martha today. She had a fun “Tea Party” with her 2 granddaughters. She did it for Valentine’s Day but you could do it anytime during the year.
Thanks Martha for sharing your great ideas.

I hadn’t seen my two granddaughters for over a month, so I decided to “make an appointment” with my son to have him drop them off on the Saturday before Valentine’s Day for a Valentine Tea Party with Grandma. I recruited my youngest daughter to come and help “entertain” my 20 month old granddaughter, when she lost interest in making cookies, which was about 10 minutes! My older granddaughter stuck to it, however, and did a great job of decorating all her cookies. While they were in the oven, we made heart crowns and colored Valentine pictures for Mom and Dad. For lunch, we used our cookie cutters, and made heart shaped sandwiches.
We had a great time, and I got some cute pictures of “grandma’s darlings” to put in my scrapbook. Every time I see them, they put a smile on my face as I remember our fun Valentine Tea Party. I think I’ll make it a tradition!
