Magnetic Photo Frames
This is a fun and inexpensive way to show photos of your grandchildren on your fridge or any magnetic board.
You will need lids from cans (any size will work – soup, vegetables, fruit, etc.), glue and magnets.
Directions:
1. Remove the lid from the can, I would recommend using a can opener that leaves the edges smooth.
2. Trace the lid onto the photo and cut out slightly smaller.
3. Glue photo on the lid and add a magnet to the back.
You can make then as ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree by adding a looped ribbon to the back.

Chicken Pie A La Mississippi
I’ve never made pot pies because I was always afraid of messing up the crust but I think I could manage this one with phyllo dough.
Are there recipes you haven’t tried for fear of them not working out?
Chicken Pie A La Mississippi
2 onions, diced
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2 chicken breasts and 2 thighs, skinnless and boneless, diced
1/2 cup vegetable or chicken broth
1/4 cup white wine
2 celery stalks, slice
1 bay leaf
4 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons flour
pepper
1 sheet frozen phyllo dough, thawed
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a pan, saute the onions in the oil. Add the chicken, broth, wine, celery, and bay leaf. Simmer 10 minutes.
2 In a separate pan, melt the butter; then add the flour and pepper, whisking briskly for 5 minutes to form a roux.
3. Place the chicken mixture in a 2-quart casserole. Add the roux and stir. Drape the phyllo dough over the top and bake for 20 – 25 minutes.

Off-the-Cuff Bracelets
This project would be fun, easy, and inexpensive for young women’s groups, achievement day groups, girl scout groups or with your daughter or granddaughter. Repurpose old wool sweaters by felting the fabric — shrinking the wool until it’s thick and ravel-proof — and then it’s a cinch to create stylish bracelets.
Materials
Old sweater
Scissors
Embroidery needle
Embroidery floss
Buttons, felt shapes, paper flowers, and other embellishments
Instructions
To felt the wool, wash the sweater in hot water and dry it on high heat. Repeat, if necessary, so that the fabric’s weave is tight enough to be cut without fraying.
Cut loops from the sweater’s cuffs and arms. Next, decorate the bangles by using embroidery floss to sew on buttons, felt shapes, paper flowers, and more.
Tips: If the diameter of a loop is too big, cut it open, trim the excess length, then overlap the edges and secure them by sewing on embellishments.
This idea came from FAMILY FUN.

From the Book Bench – A Mama for Owen
This is a darling book inspired by the tsunami of 2004. Owen the baby hippo and his mama were best friends. They loved to play together on the banks of the Sabaki River in Africa. That was all before the tsunami came and washed Owen’s world away. After the rain stops, Owen befriends Mzee, a grayish brown tortoise. He plays with him, snuggles with him, and decides he just might turn out to be his best friend and a brand new mama.
This is a true tale of healing, adoption, and rebirth.
